HAVANA, Cuba –Two U.S. men’s freestyle wrestlers won bronze medal at the Cerro Pelado International on Friday.

Claiming bronze medals were young talents Frank Perrelli (Hackettstown, N.J./New York AC) at 55 kg/121 lbs. and Devin Carter (Blacksburg, Va./Hokie Mat Club) at 60 kg/132 lbs. Both had impressive 3-1 records.

Perrelli, the former All-American at Cornell, defeated Perez of Panama, 3-0, 6-0 in the bronze-medal match.

Carter, an All-American at Virginia Tech who is on a redshirt year, defeated Abel Herrera of Peru, 4-4, 1-1, 2-1.

Carter has had a strong international season so far, winning a gold medal at the Dave Schultz Memorial and a bronze medal at the New York Athletic Club International.

“The guys wrestled well today. Frank beat the No. 1 Cuban in his second match. Devin showed a lot of promise for such a young guy,” said U.S. coach Jim Humphrey.

The men’s freestyle competition continues this weekend with additional American competitors.
