U.S. and international stars to compete at Dave Schultz Memorial International, Jan. 31 – Feb. 2

The tentative rosters have been submitted for the 2013 Dave Schultz Memorial International Championships, and so far, they boast more than 20 World Championship medalists and six Olympic medalists.

This annual international event, entering its 15th year, will be held in Sports Center I at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo., Jan. 31 – Feb. 2. Greco-Roman will compete on Thursday, men’s freestyle on Friday and women’s freestyle on Saturday. 

The international teams set to compete include Benin, Bulgaria, Canada, China, France, the Honduras, India, Japan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Lithuania, Mongolia, Romania, Russia, Sweden, Togo, the United States and Venezuela. 

Tentative rosters for the U.S. and tentative international delegations have been compiled. 

World Champions slated to wrestle at this year’s tournament include 2012 World Champions from the USA: Elena Pirozhkova at 63 kg/138.75 lbs. and Adeline Gray at 67 kg/147.5 lbs. Both are past University World champions, and Gray boasts a Junior World title. Another 2012 World Champion, Jessica MacDonald of Canada at 51 kg/112.25 lbs., will also compete. 2005 World Champion Iris Smith of the USA at 72 kg/158.5 lbs. is also expected. 

Olympic and World medalists are also arriving from around the world. 2012 Olympic silver medalist and 2010 World Champion Sushil Kumar at 66 kg/145.5 lbs. will compete for India. Also in freestyle is 2012 Olympic bronze medalist Akzhurek Tanatarov wrestling at 74 kg/163 lbs. from Kazakhstan. Coming out of Lithuania are Olympic bronze medalists in Greco-Roman, Aleksandr Kazakevich at 74 kg/163 lbs. and Mindaugas Mizgaitis at 120 kg/264.5 lbs. Greco-Roman star Johan Euren of Sweden was also an Olympic bronze medalist at 120 kg/264.5 lbs.

Among other top athletes include numerous World and Olympic Team members and Junior and University World champions and medalists.

The Broomfield High School vs. Palmer Ridge High School dual meet will be held alongside the Dave Schultz Memorial on Friday, Feb. 1 at 6:00 p.m.
