U.S. MARINE WRESTLERS MARTIN, HICKS WIN SILVER MEDALS AT THE  ST. PETERSBURG OPEN IN ST. PETERSBURG, RUSSIA, NOV. 19-21 

Two members of the U.S. Marine Corps wrestling team, Duaine Martin (Quantico, Va./U.S. Marine Corps) at 127.75 pounds and Dan Hicks (Quantico, Va./U.S. Marine Corps) at 213.75 pounds, at the St. Petersburg Open of Greco-Roman wrestling in St. Petersburg, Russia, Nov. 19-21.

Martin dominated his first three opponents, scoring two pins and a technical fall. In the gold-medal finals, he was defeated by Stanislav Lomachinski of Russia, 10-5.

Hicks also scored three straight wins to qualify for the championship match, where he was edged by Konstantin Bataev of Russia, 3-1.

James Shillow (Quantico, Va./U.S. Marine Corps) placed fifth at 138.75 pounds. Two U.S. Marines placed sixth, Joseph Clark (Quantico, Va./U.S. Marine Corps) at 167.5 pounds and Ken Owens (Quantico, Va./U.S. Marine Corps) at 187.25 pounds. Placing eighth at 138.75 pounds was Scott Munsey (Quantico, Va./U.S. Marines).

The U.S. Marines placed third in the team standings, behind the St. Petersburg, Russia club team and the Moscow, Russia club team. The U.S. team was coached by Marine Corps head coach Jay Antonelli of Quantico, Va.
