WRESTLERS HONORED BY SPORTS ILLUSTRATED'S 50 GREATEST SPORTS FIGURES FROM EACH STATE 

A total of 42 wrestling heroes have been honored as part of Sports Illustrated's special feature, "The 50 Greatest Sports Figures" of the century from each state. These lists of the top sports heroes were published in the December 27-January 3 issue of the magazine.

Wrestling legend Dan Gable of Iowa was recognized as the No. 1 sports figure of the century in his native Iowa. Two states recognized wrestlers with six of their 50 choices: Iowa and South Dakota.

Five other wrestling stars were selected as Top 10 choices within their state. They included Curley Culp (No. 3 in Arizona), Randy Lewis (No. 7 in South Dakota), Mike Young (No. 8 in Idaho), Jim Zalesky (No. 9 in Iowa) and Gene Davis (No. 9 in Montana).
