Kilgore named MAC Wrestler of the Week

Kent State’s 2011 national champion Dustin Kilgore (Berea, Ohio) added another award to his ever-growing pile Wednesday, when he was named Mid-American Conference Wrestler of the Week for the second time this season. Kilgore went 5-0 at the Virginia Duals with four pins and a forfeit.

None of Kilgore's opponents even made it to the third period this past weekend, including Arizona State’s Jake Meredith, who is No. 5 in this week’s Amateur Wrestling News Poll. Kilgore helped the Golden Flashes to dual wins over Arizona State, VMI and No. 25 Old Dominion. The Flashes' career-victory leader extended his NCAA winning streak to 46 matches and ran his season pin total to 11.

Now 27-0, Kilgore has 20 bonus-point victories this season. He has defeated three different opponents that are ranked in the Top 5 and has the highest pound-for-pound rating of any wrestler in the nation according to Takedown Wrestling.

In addition to his 162 career victories, Kilgore is closing in on the Golden Flashes’ career pins record. His 43 falls are just three shy of Kent State’s career leader Jim Swetter. The 2011 MAC Wrestler of the Year also carries a 56-match winning streak in dual meets.
