GEBHART PROPERTIES NAMED LEAD SPONSOR FOR WRESTLING WORLD CUP 2000, IN FAIRFAX, VA., FEB. 5-6Gebhart Properties of Baltimore County has been named the lead sponsor for the Wrestling World Cup 2000.
Alan J. Gebhart, the sole owner of Gebhart Properties, announced today that his companies will contribute $20,000 toward the international event, which will take place February 5-6 at the Patriot Center on the campus of George Mason University in Fairfax, Va.
Teams from Iran, Cuba, Russia, Ukraine, Turkey and the United States will be competing in the premier international amateur wrestling event in the United States this year.
Gebhart Properties, which employs over 50 persons, owns and manages residential and commercial real estate in the northern Baltimore County corridor. Included in their holdings are Briarcliff Apartments East and Briarcliff North, located in Cockeysville, Md. They consist of 852 garden style luxury apartments which are of the highest quality construction and maintenance. Gebhart Properties also includes the Cranbrook Shopping Center in Cockeysville, Md., which is a 100,000 square foot strip center and includes two professional office buildings. Satyr Hill Shopping Center is another neighborhood center located in the Parkville, Md. area .
Among Mr. Gebhart's other development work is Ivy Hill, one of the largest luxury single family home communities in the Baltimore area.
Mr. Gebhart is also the President of the Baltimore Committee for International Wrestling, Inc. (BCIW), an official organizer of Wrestling World Cup 2000. He is the head wrestling coach for Archbishop Curley High School and has been involved in amateur wrestling for over twelve years, the past nine years as head coach. In 1998, he was named all-metro coach of the year by the Baltimore Sun. That same year, Curley won the state championship, and has been a state-ranked top ten team for the past five years. Last year, Mr. Gehhart coached Curley to its first ever undefeated season. For the past five years, his teams have posted a 57-7 record.
Mr. Gebhart has been a longtime member of the school board at Archbishop Curley High School. He was instrumentaI in moving the school toward major development activities, culminating in the first ever endowment campaign which is now in progress. To that end, Mr. Gebhart has pledged $1 Million, the largest gift ever to an archdiocesan high school in Maryland. He also has been a member, oblate and major donor to the Life In Jesus Community, part of the Charismatic Episcopal Church.
Sponsoring Wrestling World Cup 2000 is another in a long line of continuing efforts to improve the exposure of amateur wrestling in the country as well as to bring major amateur wrestling events to the Baltimore/Washington DC area.
