LAS VEGAS, Nev. – The semifinals have completed and the 10 gold-medal matches have bee determined at the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational at the Las Vegas Convention Center on Saturday. All three past NCAA champions in the field have advanced to the gold-medal finals. Three-time NCAA champion Kyle Dake of Cornell will face Steven Monk of North Dakota State in the finals at 165 pounds in a match between the two top seeds. In the semifinals, Dake scored a 14-3 major decision over Zach Toal of Missouri. 2012 NCAA champion Logan Stieber of Ohio State at 133 pounds will face Nathan McCormick of Missouri in another battle of the top two seeds. Stieber had a semifinal pin over Devon Lotito of Cal Poly in just 39 seconds. 2011 NCAA champion and top seed Dustin Kilgore of Kent State will battle No. 2 seed Alfonso Hernandez of Wyoming at 197 pounds. Kilgore stopped Ohio State’s Andrew Campolattano of Ohio State, 6-3 in his semifinal. The 141 pound finals is a rematch of the 2011 Cliff Keen finals at that weight class, No. 1 seed Hunter Stieber of Ohio State faces No. 2 seed Michael Mangrum of Oregon State. Mangrum won that match last year, 6-3. Ohio State and Missouri, the top two teams after Friday’s action, came into the round with six semifinalists each, and the Buckeyes holding a 4.5 point lead. After the semifinals, Missouri put four athletes in the finals, while Ohio State was only able to get two finalists. The Tigers led the Buckeyes by 11 points after the semifinal rounds, 112 points to 101 points. Cornell is third with 94 points, Oregon State fourth with 90 points and Nebraska fifth with 72 points. Cornell has two finalists, Oregon State has three and Nebraska has two. Eight No. 1 seeds reached the finals, and there is a matchup of No. 1 vs. No. 2 in six weight classes. Logan Stieber, Dake and Mangrum are returning Cliff Keen champions in this year’s finals. Hunter Stieber and Cole Von Ohlen of Air Force at 149 pounds are returning Cliff Keen runners-up in the finals this afternoon. The championship finals set for 3:00 p.m. Pacific time.
