BUDAPEST, Hungary – Three U.S. wrestlers won medals on the second day of men’s freestyle action at the Veterans World Championships on Saturday.

Capturing a silver medal at 76 kg in Div. D (51-55 years old) was Brad Swartz of Auburn, Wash.

Swartz opening the tournament with three straight wins, stopping Janos Zsura of Hungary, teammate Chris Brown of the United States and Daniel Rodriguez of Argentina. He was defeated in the gold-medal finals by Hormoz Almasi of Iran.

Swartz has won five previous Veterans World titles.

The USA had a pair of bronze medals in Div. C (46 – 50 years old), won by Victor Aybar of Manchester, Md. at 58 kg and Jamey Kasser of Lewis Center, Ohio at 63 kg.

Aybar opened with a win over Aiyoub Babaei of Iran, then was defeated by Anatoli Olesov of Russia. In the bronze-medal round, he beat Antal Plosz of Hungary.

Kasser won his opening bout against Roger Papotto of France, then was defeated in the semifinals by Boris Savva of Moldova. There was no bronze-medal bout in Kasser’s pool, so he ended with a 1-1 record.

Kasser was a Veterans World champion the previous two years.

The final two weight classes will be contested on Sunday, Div. A (35 – 40 years old) and Div. G (66 – 70 years old).
