This weekend, USA Wrestling will be hosting two of its major annual events, the USA Wrestling Board of Directors meeting and the USA Wrestling State Leaders Summit at the Cheyenne Mountain Resort in Colorado Springs, Colo.

The Board of Directors meeting is set for Saturday, August 25 at the Cheyenne Mountain Resort and Conference Center. The meeting is chaired by USA Wrestling President James Ravannack. It will begin at 9:00 a.m. and will run through its conclusion on Saturday.

Among the topics under consideration at the Board meeting is a proposal to change the structure of the USA Wrestling Board of Directors. There will be elections held for Board at Large positions and positions on certain Standing Committees, as well as for officers of the Board of Directors.

Among the other agenda items is the presentation of the 2012-13 USA Wrestling budget for review and approval.

The State Leaders Summit is scheduled for four days, August 23-26, with a variety of activities at the Cheyenne Mountain Resort.

The State Leaders Summit allows the important volunteer leaders from USA Wrestling’s state associations to get together, share ideas, develop best practices and make major decisions on grassroots programs and activities. This year, there are expected to be representatives from 41 states participating in the meetings, the most in the history of the event.

A variety of workshops will be held, focusing on topics such as program development, sports safety, membership growth, insurance, communications strategies, connection between grassroots and Olympic level activities and more. Also scheduled are a number of important committee and council meetings where key topics will be discussed and decisions made on future activities for the organization.

A highlight of the weekend will be the appearance of 2012 Olympic bronze medalist Coleman Scott, who will spend time with both the Board of Directors as well as the state leaders. Scott was a product of USA Wrestling’s age-group development system, winning the Junior Nationals as a high school star in Pennsylvania, then going on to success at Oklahoma State and then on the Olympic level in freestyle wrestling.
