2012 Olympic champion Jordan Burroughs will be honored with a parade in his hometown of Sicklerville, N.J. on Saturday, August 25.

The parade will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The starting point of the parade will be the Christ Care Unit Missionary Baptist Church (242 Sicklerville Rd. Sicklerville, which is at the corner of Grimes and Sicklerville Roads) and will end at School #3 (131 Sicklerville Road).

Burroughs won a gold medal at 74 kg/163 lbs. in men’s freestyle wrestling at the 2012 London Olympic Games on Friday, August  10 at the Excel Centre.

He is a native of Sicklerville, where he attended Winslow Township High School and was a New Jersey state high school wrestling champion in 2006. Burroughs went on to the University of Nebraska, where he won two NCAA titles and received the Dan Hodge Trophy as the nation’s top college wrestler.

Burroughs is excited about the chance to return home and share his success with his home community.

Burroughs posted this on his Twitter account @AllISeeIsGold: “My hometown Sicklerville, NJ is throwing me a parade on August 25th!!! I feel honored! Hometown Hero!”

The Mayor of Winslow Township, Barry Wright, has assisted in organizing the parade, working directly with the Burroughs family, which lives in the community.

The parade will include a variety of youth organizations, plus dignitaries and politicians from the region.

Those who wish  to participate in the parade are asked to begin staging at the Christ Care Unit Missionary Baptist Church at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.

At the conclusion of the parade at School #3, Burroughs will mingle with local residents and sign autographs for them.

Burroughs has been busy making media appearances since returning from the Olympic Games, as a guest on the NBC Tonight Show with Jay Leno in Los Angeles, as well as on the Today Show in New York, along with fellow Olympic champion Jake Varner. 

Burroughs has been undefeated in Senior-level freestyle competition since he joined the international circuit at the conclusion of his college career, winning 38 straight matches, including gold medals at the 2011 World Championships and the 2012 Olympic Games.
