The United States is sending talented teams in the three Olympic styles of wrestling to the 2012 FILA Cadet World Championships, set for Baku, Azerbaijan, August 21-26. The FILA Cadet age division is for athletes who are 15-17 years old. FILA reinstated the Cadet World Championships in 2011, after it had been suspended for more than a decade, going back to 1999. The men’s freestyle competition will be held August 21-22, the women’s freestyle held August 23-24 and the Greco-Roman held August 25-26. The qualifying event for the U.S. teams in men’s freestyle and Greco-Roman was the FILA Cadet Nationals in Akron, Ohio in June. The U.S. women’s team was formed at the Body Bar FILA Cadet Nationals in Lakeland, Fla. in May. The competition begins with men’s freestyle.
