Stan Dziedzic of Roswell, Ga. has been re-elected to the FILA Bureau, the governing council for international amateur wrestling, during the FILA Congress meetings at the Grange St. Paul Hotel on Friday.

Dziedzic has served on the FILA Bureau since his first election victory in 2006.

Dziedzic was appointed as a Vice President of FILA in 2010 and because of his re-election to the Bureau, he will remain a Vice President. In his role as a Vice President, Dziedzic also sits on FILA’s Executive Committee.

He received the most votes among the male candidates for FILA Bureau positions with 88 votes. 

“It’s a democracy. Win or lose, your election is based upon whether or not you met the expectations of the membership. That seems to be the case,” said Dziedzic.

Dziedzic currently chairs the FILA Athletes and Hall of Fame Department, and has been instrumental in the development and expansion of the FILA International Wrestling Hall of Fame.

“For the most part, the biggest focus will be to fashion the rules, especially for Greco-Roman, in a way which is attractive to the fans and to television, but doesn’t alter that the best wrestler will prevail. They should go hand-in-hand, but that is not always the case,” said Dziedzic.

Also re-elected to the FILA Bureau were Natalia Yariguina of Russia, Ik-Jong Kim of Korea, Nenad Lalovic of Serbia and Daulet Turlykhanov of Kazakhstan. Elected to the FILA Bureau for the first time was Mr.  Al Shahran from Qatar.

Dziedzic said that based upon the results of the election that he was “really encouraged” that the FILA Bureau and its decisions would have a positive impact on wrestling in the next four-year Olympic cycle.

Prior to his election to the FILA Bureau, Dziedzic served two terms as USA Wrestling's president and is currently the past president on USA Wrestling's Board of Directors. In his four years as USA Wrestling president, the organization strengthened its position within international wrestling and has assisted in promoting wrestling within the Olympic community.

Dziedzic won a bronze medal at the 1976 Olympic Games at 163 pounds in freestyle wrestling in Montreal, Canada. He was a World champion in 1977 in Lausanne, Switzerland. He placed fifth in the 1974 World Championships. He won two World Cup titles and four national freestyle titles during his career.

Dziedzic was a 1971 NCAA champion for Slippery Rock Univ. and also won three small college national titles there. He is a Distinguished Member of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame and has been inducted into the Div. II Wrestling Hall of Fame.

He served as national freestyle coach for the United States in the early 1980's and was team manager of the 1984 U.S. Olympic team.
He served as an executive with Lehman Bros. in Atlanta, Ga. before retiring.
