Coming into this week's USA Wrestling Cadet National Duals, teams from Illinois had been on a roll. That roll continued in Daytona Beach, Fla., as the Cadet Greco-Roman team won their portion of the tournament on Friday. Sunday would be a different story. Pennsylvania Blue snapped Illinois' stranglehold on the annual dual event with a 33-31 victory over the defending champions. From a team standpoint, it was a battle where every point mattered. Neither team scored individual victories by technical fall or fall, leaving every one of the 17 bouts was a three-point outcome. Team Pennsylvania won nine bouts to Illinois' eight. Both teams managed two shutout wins. Pennsylvania stormed out to a 15-7 lead with wins in four of the first five weights, highlighted by Luke Karam's 1-0, 2-1 win over Illinois' Nick Lukanich in a battle of returning Cadet All-Americans at 94 pounds. Illinois would win four of the next five to bring the dual to 22-20 in Pennsylvania's favor after 152 pounds. The teams would split the final six weights, but Illinois would make it interesting with victories at 220 and 285. Despite wins from Andre Lee at 220 and Michael Hobbs at heavyweight, neither wrestler could pick up the crucial bonus points needed to tie or win the bout. Michigan Blue topped Oklahoma Red 39-36 for third place, while New Jersey beat Texas 57-15 for fifth and Greco-Roman runners up, Minnesota, finished seventh with a 47-27 win over Missouri.
