Services for Lee Allen set for Saturday, June 16 in Half Moon Bay, Calif.

The family of Lee Allen has announced plans for a memorial service in his honor this weekend.

A service will be held on Saturday, June 16 at 10:00 a.m. at the Community Methodist Church in Half Moon Bay, Calif. 

Allen, 77, an Olympic athlete and coach and a leader within the sport at many levels, passed away on Monday.

In lieu of flowers, the family of Lee Allen has requested that donations be made in Lee’s honor to the Olympians For Olympians Relief Fund.

The family also would like to thank the entire wrestling community for its outpouring of love and support in recent days. 

He holds the unique distinction of competing in the Olympic Games twice, once in each of the Olympic styles, wrestling in the 1956 Olympics in freestyle and the 1960 Olympics in Greco-Roman.

Allen was also the head coach of the 1980 U.S. Olympic Greco-Roman team, which did not compete in the Olympics in Moscow, Soviet Union because of the U.S. government boycott of the Games.

He finished his coaching career as a pioneer in women’s wrestling, serving as the head coach for the women’s team at Menlo College in California and helping develop the sport on the national and international levels.
