Army wins the 2000 Armed Forces freestyle Championship  with six individual champions, March 18 

The U.S. Army won all three of its dual meets to win the team title at the 2000 Armed Forces freestyle Championships at the Naval Air Station Whiting Field in Pensacola, Fla., March 18.

The U.S. Army defended its team title with wins over the U.S. Navy, 27-7, the U.S. Air Force, 25-7, and the U.S. Marine Corps, 25-8.

The U.S. Marine Corps placed second in the team race with a 2-1 team record, scoring team victories over the U.S. Air Force, 24-10, and the U.S. Navy, 26-6. The U.S. Air Force was 1-2 and finished in third place as a team, and the U.S. Navy was fourth with an 0-3 record.

The Army had the most individual champions with six, including Eric Albarracin at 119 pounds, Jason Kutz at 127.75 pounds, Jeff Bedard at 138.75 pounds, Matt Marciniak at 167.5 pounds, Orlando Rosa at 187.25 pounds and Mike Van Arsdale at 213.75 pounds.

The Marine Corps had one individual champion: Brian Van Hoven at 152 pounds.

The Air Force also had one individual champion: Corey Farkas at 286 pounds.

The U.S. Army and U.S. Air Force teams are stationed in Colorado Springs, Colo., while the U.S. Navy team is stationed in Pensacola, Fla. and the U.S. Marine Corps team is stationed in Quantico, Va.

The U.S. Army won both the freestyle and the Greco-Roman competition at the 1999 Armed Forces Wrestling Championship, which was held at the Post Field House in Fort Carson, Colo.

In the overall team standings, the U.S. Army won the title, with the U.S. Marine Corps placing second. The U.S. Air Force placed third and the U.S. Navy placed fourth.
