NWCA Coaches Clinic set for Dapper Dan Classic in Pittsburgh, March 24-25

NWCA TO HOST A COACHES CLINIC AT DAPPER DAN CLASSIC, MARCH 24-25, AT THE RADISSON HOTEL-GREENTREE IN PITTSBURGH, PA., FEATURING ROGER REINA, DEREK MOUNTSIER AND BRIAN DOLPH 

The National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) will host a Coaches Clinic in conjunction with the annual Dapper Dan Classic in Pittsburgh, Pa., March 24-25.

Featured clinicians will include members of the nationally-respected University of Pennsylvania coaching staff, including head coach Roger Reina and assistant coaches Brian Dolph and Derek Mountsier.

The clinic is scheduled for Friday, March 24 and Saturday, March 25 at the Radisson Hotel-Greentree in Pittsburgh.

The clinic is held in honor of the late Gus DeAugustino, a Pittsburgh-area wrestling legend, who was the originator of the clinic. The NWCA will donate a portion of the proceeds to the Dapper Dan Charities in Gus's name.

The registration costs are $50 for NWCA members who pre-register, $55 for non-member who preregister and $60 for registration at the door.

Reina has built the Univ. of Pennsylvania into one of the most successful Div. I wrestling programs in the nation. The team is annually ranked among the top 20 in the nation. Penn won four straight EIWA team titles under Reina, and featured a NCAA Champion in 2000 when Brett Matter won the 157-pound title.

Dolph was a NCAA champion for Indiana University, and is now one of the best freestyle wrestlers in the nation. He has twice placed second at the U.S. Freestyle Nationals, and is expected to challenge for a position on the 2000 U.S. Olympic team. Dolph has been an assistant coach at Penn for six years.

Mountsier was a two-time NCAA All-American for Iowa State Univ., and is a nationally ranked Greco-Roman wrestler.

The Dapper Dan Classic, partially funded by UPMC Health System, benefits the boys and girls club of Western Pennsylvania. The Wrestling classic, dubbed "The Rose Bowl of Wrestling," is the premier high school all-star dual meet in the United States. The preliminary match will features WPIAL stars going against Nebraska's best at 5:30 p.m. The main event, Pennsylvania versus USA, will begin at 7:30 p.m. Pennsylvania leads the series 14-10-1.

Tickets for the Wrestling Classic are $12 for reserved seats and $8 for general admission. They can be purchased at Wright Automotive Group in Wexford or Canon-McMillan High School.
