COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Jesse Thielke of the Sunkist Kids qualified for his fourth straight FILA Junior World Team, with a victory at 60 kg/132 lbs. at the FILA Junior World Team Trials on Saturday night.

The eight Greco-Roman champions will advance to the FILA Junior World Championships on Sept. 4-9 in Pattaya, Thailand.

Thielke stopped Mitch Bengtson of the Minnesota Storm in a two-match sweep in the Championship Series. He won the first match, 1-0, 1-0 and the second match, 2-0, 4-0.

Thielke seeks his first Junior World medal. He comes off a strong year on the Senior level, where he placed fourth at the U.S. Olympic Team Trials. He has been training at the U.S. Olympic Training Center this year, taking a year off before heading to college at Wisconsin.

Three other wrestlers made their second straight FILA Junior World Greco-Roman team, Jacob Bellis of Kyle Somers at 50 kg/110 lbs., Mike Fuenffinger of the Minnesota Storm at 55 kg/121 lbs. and Marcus Finau of the USOEC at 96 kg/211.5 lbs.

Bellis defeated Bobby Nachreiner of AWA, in two straight matches, winning the first bout, 2-0, 4-0 and taking the second bout, 1-0, 2-0. Bellis was second at the 2012 FILA Junior Nationals at 55 kg/121 lbs., but dropped a weight class to earn a return trip to the Junior Worlds.

Fuenffinger swept 2012 FILA Junior Nationals champion Isaiah Varona of the USOEC in two straight. He captured the first match, 4-0, 1-0 and the second match, 1-0, 2-1. Fuenffinger is a Div. III NCAA qualifier for Augsburg.

Finau, who advanced directly to the Championship Series after winning the 2012 FILA Junior Nationals, needed just two bouts to earn a return trip to the FILA Junior World Championships. Finau did not allow a point, stopping Brandon Rivera of Team Overtime/USOEC, 2-0, 1-0 in the opening bout and 5-0, 2-0 in the second bout.

The USOEC program at Northern Michigan had another champion at 66 kg/145.5 lbs., when 2012 FILA Junior Nationals champion Nick Alvarez stopped Ronnie Garbinsky of the Pittsburgh WC in two straight. Alvarez needed three periods to win both matches. He stopped Garbinsky, 0-1, 6-0, 1-0 in bout one, and 3-0, 0-1, 1-0 in bout two.

In a battle of 2012 FILA Junior Nationals champions, Geordan Speiller of the Florida Jets swept unattached Caleb Smith in two straight. Speiller took the first bout, 4-0, 0-1, 1-0 and the second bout, 3-0, 2-0. Speiller won the FILA Junior national title at a non-FILA weight, 79 kg/173.75 lbs., and dropped down for the World Team Trials. Smith won his national title at 74 kg/163 lbs.

A pair of Div. I college wrestlers earned spots on the FILA Junior World Team: Lucas Sheridan of HWC/CYC at 84 kg/185 lbs. and Wyatt Baker of NYAC at 120 kg/264.5 lbs.

Sheridan, a 2012 FILA Junior Nationals champion who attends Indiana University, swept his final series over Lee Wildes of the USOEC. Sheridan emerged with a 2-0, 1-0 victory in bout one, then shut out Wildes in the second bout, 3-0, 2-0. Sheridan closed out the deciding second match with a gutwrench with two seconds left in the second period.

Baker, who wrestles for Columbia Univ. and has limited Greco-Roman experience, swept Parker Betts of the USOEC in two straight. Baker won the first bout, 1-0, 1-1. In the second bout, in the third period, he defended from the bottom in par terre to emerge with a 1-0, 0-4, 1-0 victory.
