COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Tanner Hall is headed back to the Junior World Championships for the second straight year in freestyle wrestling.

And determined to use what he learned during his experience last year to make a run at a medal.

Hall was one of eight wrestlers who swept their opponents in the final-round series at the FILA Junior World Team Trials on Saturday night at Palmer High School.

Hall, who trains at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, swept Kyle Snyder in the finals at 96 kg/211.5 lbs.

"Last year, I don't think I was that well-prepared for it. It was really disappointing," Hall said of the 2011 Junior Worlds. "This year, I plan to do a much better job and get on that podium."

The eight freestyle champions advance to the FILA Junior World Championships on Sept. 4-9 in Pattaya, Thailand.

Destin McCauley continues to progress after looking strong in sweeping junior-college national champion Edwin Cooper in the finals at 66 kg/145.5 lbs. McCauley, an Iowa State recruit, has made significant gains after training at the Olympic Training Center.

"I've gotten so much better during my time at the OTC," McCauley said. "I'm really excited for Junior Worlds. I can't wait."

Joey Dance took two straight matches from Caleb Richardson in the finals at 55 kg/121 lbs. Dance won Junior Nationals last year before winning the FILA Junior Nationals this past April. Dance and Richardson are both from Virginia.

OTC residents Earl Hall and Patrick Downey also landed spots on the Junior World Team.

Hall took two straight bouts from NCAA qualifier Shelton Mack of Pittsburgh in the finals at 60 kg/132 lbs. Hall bumped up a weight after competing at 55 kilos at the U.S. Olympic Team Trials.

Downey turned in a superb performance in defeating fellow OTC resident Dwight Howes in the finals at 84 kg/185 lbs. Downey, a past Junior Nationals champion, prevailed despite suffering a rib injury in the first match against Howes.

Oklahoma State teammates Alex Dieringer and Austin Marsden also earned trips to Thailand after winning titles on Saturday.

Dieringer swept University of Iowa freshman Nick Moore in a battle of past Junior Nationals champions at 74 kg/163 lbs.

Marsden, an NCAA qualifier this year, took two straight matches from Wisconsin freshman Connor Medbery in the finals at 120 kg/264.5 lbs.

Adrian Cordova, a two-time state champion for Coronado High School in Colorado Springs, swept Bobby Nachreiner in the finals at 50 kg/110 lbs.
