USA Wrestling is continuing the exciting National Team Coaching Apprentice Program. Entering its fourth year, the program provides coaches the chance for professional growth with field experience on an international tour with a U.S. team.
This year’s program will provide coaches the opportunity to travel to the FILA Junior World Championships in Pattaya, Thailand, September 4-9, 2012. Sunday, September 2, 2012 is the scheduled departure date and coaches will be scheduled to return on Monday, September 10, 2012.
"This program continues to grow as we had 25 coaches apply for 10 spots last year,†said USA Wrestling National Coaches Education Program Manager Cody Bickley. “Last year’s CAP attendees that traveled to Istanbul, Turkey gained invaluable knowledge and experience. We had coaches that attended a wrestling academy for youth, watched Turkish Oil Wrestling as well as witnessing wrestling at the highest level during the 2011 Senior World Championships. It was an amazing wrestling experience as well as cultural experience."
To be eligible, a coach must have attended a USA Wrestling Silver College or be certified at the Silver or Gold levels within the NCEP program. Coaches must also apply for the USA Wrestling Coaches Pool to be considered for the program (this form will be sent directly to Cody Bickley).
Coaches who attend the tour as an Apprentice Coach will receive two NCEP credits for their field experience, and will be required to turn in a log of the experience to earn the credits.
Coaches will pay for all costs associated with the trip. Selection will be limited to 10 coaches.
Coaches will be an official member of the USA delegation and will be included in events and activities associated with the competition. They will receive an official team gear package with the trip.
The application deadline is June 15, 2012 for the competition in Pattya, Thailand. Coaches will need a deposit of $1,500 to cover the airfare upfront. The remaining balance is due prior to departure. There are no refunds on deposits. A tentative cost for the trip would be $2,500. This cost includes flights, hotel, credentials, and team gear.
The final approval of Apprentice Coaches will be determined by the Manager of the NCEP.
