Jennifer Page of OCU/Gator, the champion at 67 kg, receives the Outstanding Wrestler Award from 2004 Olympian and Lindenwood head coach Toccara Montgomery

LAKELAND, Fla. – Jennifer Page of OCU/Gator WC was named as Outstanding Wrestler after capturing the 67 kg/147.5 lbs. title at the Body Bar Women’s FILA Junior Nationals on Sunday.

In a battle of two athletes who have been successful on the Senior level, Page defeated Amanda Hendey of King College in two straight matches in the Championship Series. Page won the first match, 1-0, 1-0, then pinned Hendey in the second match in the second period, 1-4, 0:49.

Page recently placed third at the 2012 U.S. Olympic Team Trials at 63 kg. Hendey was second in the 2011 U.S. Senior Open. They were teammates earlier this season when Hendey was at Oklahoma City University, before she transferred to King College.

Champions in the eight FILA weight classes earned a spot on the 2012 U.S. Junior World Team, which will compete in Pattaya, Thailand, Sept. 4-9. Runners-up will compete on the 2012 U.S. Pan American Junior Team.

Three wrestlers repeated as FILA Junior Nationals champions: Erin Golston of the New York AC at 44 kg/97.5 lbs., Jenna Burkert of the New York AC at 59 kg/130 lbs. and Alli Ragan of the New York AC at 63 kg/138.75 lbs.

Golston and Ragan won FILA Junior World bronze medals last year, and because of that achievement, sat out of the Challenge Tournament and moved directly into the best-of-three Championship Series. Both swept their opponents in the finals series.

Golston stopped Emily Webster of OCU/Gator WC in the finals series, winning the first match, 2-1, 3-0, then closing out the series with a 1-3, 2-0, 3-1 victory in the second match. Golston qualified for her third straight Junior World Team.

Ragan stopped her King College teammate Krista Revelle in two straight bouts, winning 1-0, 1-1 in the first match, then scoring a 3-0, 1-0 win in match two.

Burkert also won her series in two straight, stopping Rachael Shannon of Lindenwood in the finals series. She took the first bout, 1-0, 3-1, then won the second match, 2-2, 1-0, 3-0. Burkert was eighth in the 2011 Junior World Championships.

Winning a spot on her first Junior World Team was 2011 Cadet World champion Haley Augello of the New York AC at 51 kg/112.25 lbs. Augello defeated Kayla Bartosch of King College in two straight winning 6-0, 6-0 in bout one and 6-0, 4-0 in bout two. Augello was the only high school student to win the event this year.

The event was dominated by the top college programs.

The USOEC program at Northern Michigan developed two of the champions, Golston and Burkert.

Oklahoma City University champions were Page and Kristi Garr at 48 kg/105.5 lbs. Garr needed three matches to stop Jessica Fresh of Waldorf College in the Championship Series.

King College champions were Sarah Hildebrandt at 55 kg/121 lbs. and Julia Salata at 72 kg/158.5 lbs.

Hildebrandt swept her finals series, stopping Rachel McFarland of the Gator WC in two straight matches. Salata lost her first match of the final series to Brittany David of Lindenwood, but rallied to win the final two matches to win the title and earn the World Team berth.

In a battle of teammates from Missouri Valley College at 79.5 lbs./175 lbs., Brittany Jones stopped Jessica Ulloa in two straight in the Championship Series. This weight is not contested in the FILA World Championships.
