AARON SIERACKI OF THE U.S. AIR FORCE NAMED ARMED FORCES GRECO-ROMAN CHAMPION AT 85 KGUSA Wrestling has been notified by Armed Forces Sports that Aaron Sieracki (Colorado Springs, Colo./U.S. Air Force) is the champion, and Kenny Owens (Quantico, Va./U.S. Marines) is the silver medalist, at 85 kg/187.25 pounds, at the 2000 Armed Forces Greco-Roman Wrestling Championships. The event was held in Pensacola, Fla. on March 17.
It was originally reported at the conclusion of the meet that Owens was the champion at the weight class, and that Sieracki was the silver medalist.
As the Armed Forces champion, Sieracki qualifies for the Challenge Tournament at the 2000 U.S. Olympic Wrestling Team Trials in Dallas, Texas, June 22-24.
In the original dual meet between the U.S. Air Force and the U.S. Marine Corps, Owens defeated Sieracki by a 2-2 referee's decision. A protest by the U.S. Air Force was upheld and the match was re-wrestled. Sieracki scored a 5-1 decision over Owens in the second bout. The final Armed Forces Sports ruling upholds the Sieracki victory in the re-wrestled match.
The decision also adjusts the final score of the dual meet, with the Marine Corps defeating the Air Force by a 16-15 margin. The final team standings remain the same, as the U.S. Army was first, the U.S. Marine Corps was second, the U.S. Air Force was third and the U.S. Navy was fourth.
