Wrestling fans hoping to see 1995 World Champion and 1996 Olympic Champion Kurt Angle next weekend in Iowa City at the U.S. Olympic Team Trials will be disappointed.

Angle, 43, announced via his official Twitter account (@RealKurtAngle) he will not be participating in the Trials.

"Due to hamstring and knee injuries, I'm forced to pull out of the trials," tweeted Angle. "I trained extremely hard for a full year. I'm very disappointed."

According to Angle, the final blow to his fight back to the Trials was a torn MCL.

Angle will be making a scheduled appearance at TNA Lockdown, a pay-per-view event on April 15 in Nashville, Tenn.

Since leaving wrestling after winning the Olympics in 1996, Angle has been one of sports entertainment's more popular figures. After spending nearly a decade in World Wrestling Entertainment, Angle has been active in Total Nonstop Action.

He's also appeared in several movies and has a line of gourmet and performance meal products called AngleFoods.
