The focus of the wrestling community is on the upcoming U.S. Olympic Team Trials for Wrestling in Iowa City, Iowa, April 21-22.

The event hosts in the Iowa City community and at the University of Iowa should be applauded for the major marketing effort they have exhibited organizing the 2012 U.S. Olympic Trials. Everybody hopes for a “full house” of rabid fans creates the excitement that our athletes deserve. Athletes love to “do their thing” in front of a large enthusiastic audience. 

The Living the Dream Medal Fund thought it would be fun to bring some energy to our Olympic Trials with a Pick The Winners Contest.

Fans will be encouraged to pick the winners at the weight classes qualified for the Olympic Games in all three styles of wrestling: men’s freestyle, Greco-Roman, women’s freestyle.

There will not be a selection requested for 60 kg in men’s freestyle or 96 kg in Greco-Roman, because the USA is not yet qualified for the Olympics at those weights. Some athletes will miss the Olympic Trials event for overseas Olympic Qualifiers, and the results from the Olympic Trials do not yet determine the U.S. Olympian at those weights.

The individual winner for each of the styles (freestyle, Greco, women) including those tied in first, will all receive an ASICS Living the Dream Gear Bag and an ASICS USA National Team T-Shirt.

The overall winner, with the most correct selections in the three Olympic styles, will receive the gear listed above, plus a USA Wrestling ASICS jacket.

Other organizations, including the College Wrestling Network and the National Wrestling Media Association, will also assist in promoting the contest.

Fans only need to send in the names of the winners by email to Living The Dream Medal Fund leader Al Bevilacqua by Thursday, April 19 to be included in the Pick The Winners contest.

About the Living the Dream Medal Fund:

The Living the Dream Medal Fund was established to substantially increase the financial rewards for U.S. wrestlers who win Olympic and World medals during this four-year Olympic cycle.

Any U.S. wrestler who wins a gold medal at the 2012 Olympic Games in London, England will receive a quarter-million dollars ($250,000). Silver medalists in London will earn $50,000 and bronze medalists in London will receive $25,000. The payout for a World Championships medal in 2009, 2010, and 2011 will be $50,000 for a gold, $25,000 for a silver and $15,000 for a bronze.
