Strong Georgia team lineup set for Curby Cup in Illinois, May 19

The delegation from Georgia will bring a formidable Greco-Roman team to the third annual Curby Cup to compete against the U.S. Olympic Greco-Roman team in a dual meet. The event will take place May 19 at Lyons Township High School in LaGrange, Ill.

The event is held in honor of the late Jacob Curby, a Greco-Roman Team USA member who unexpectedly passed away at the age of 25 in January 2010. 

The Georgian team will feature 2008 Olympic champion Manuchar Kvirkelia, who is also a World and European Champion and competes at 74 kg/163 lbs.

Lasha Gogitadze, a 2008 Olympian will compete at 55 kg/121 lbs.  and Revaz Lashkhi, a 2011 European champion will wrestle at 60 kg/132 lbs.

2011 World silver medalist Manuchar Tskhadia is slated to compete at 66 kg/145.5 lbs. for the Georgians as well as Soso Jabidze at 96 kg/211.5 lbs., the 2010 European bronze medalist. 

Vladimer Gegeshidze, a two time Cadet European Champion will be competing at 84 kg/185 lbs. Wrestling at 120 kg/264.5 lbs. will be Guram Pherselidze, who finished tenth at the 2010 World Championships.

The U.S. Olympic Greco-Roman team roster will be determined April 21-22 at the U.S. Olympic Team Trials in Iowa City, Iowa 

The Curby Cup will be held in Vaughan Gym at Lyons Township High School, the school Jacob Curby attended. Tickets are avaialbe for purchase online.
