The NWCA/USA Wrestling National Scholastic Duals will be held on the campus of Wabash College in Crawfordsville, Ind., April 12-14 at the Knowlings Fieldhouse.
The event will feature up to 24 teams from across the United States. There are already at least 18 teams registered, hailing from 14 different states. The Scholastic Duals is the only national event that weekend and the NWCA anticipates the field will fill rapidly.
The event is open to wrestlers currently in grades 9-11. No seniors are allowed to compete, with each wrestler guaranteed at least seven matches. Each team will have between 14 -20 wrestlers, with each team having 14 starters and any chosen alternates.
“Our goal ultimately is to have a dual tournament where each state brings the best underclassman and we can have a true underclassman national championship,†said Assistant Director of Events John Cook.
Each year, many of the nation’s top individual wrestlers participate in this meet, including those who go on to compete at the nation’s top college programs later in their careers. It is truly a showcase for talented young athletes competing in American Folkstyle.
Team Indiana Gold is the defending champion, coming out on top of a strong 15-team field. In the championship match, Indiana defeated 2010 champion Illinois in the finals dual. Indiana’s Mason Todd received the Outstanding Wrestler Award last season.
