OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – Repeating as champions at the USA Wrestling Girls Folkstyle Junior Nationals were Kayla Miracle of Indiana at 117 pounds and Rachel McFarland of Michigan at 121 pounds.

Miracle scored a dominant 21-6 technical fall in the finals, taking apart Michelle Lomas of Texas with a 21-6 technical fall, scoring takedowns at will. Miracle won this event last year at 105 poounds.

It was the second straight year in which Miracle won a double title at Girls Folkstyle Nationals, by winning both the Cadet and Junior divisions the same weekend. Miracle also dominated the competition in the Cadet Folkstyle Nationals on Friday night.

McFarland won her second straight Girls Folkstyle Junior Nationals title, scoring a major decision over Cassandra Herkelman of Iowa in the finals, 12-4. McFarland was the 117 pound champion last year. Herkelman was a silver medalist at this event for the second straight year.

Joining Miracle as a double champion with titles as a Cadet and Junior this year at Girls Folkstyle Nationals was Becka Leathers of Oklahoma, the champion at 125 pounds. Leathers defeated Skylar Grote of New Jersey in the finals by a 7-0 margin. She was also a Cadet National Folkstyle champion on Friday night.

There was a record turnout this year for the Junior division, with 184 entries including many of the nation’s most talent high school girl wrestlers.

Runners-up from last year who were able to return this year and win titles were Katelyn Eddy of Oregon at 130 pounds and Savanna Nickols of California at 172 pounds.

Eddy scored the winning point in overtime to defeat Rosemarie Flores of New York by a 2-1 margin. Eddy was second last year at 125 pounds. Flores was a double champion in freestyle last year in Fargo, N.D., winning both the Cadet and Junior titles.

Nickols scored a pin over Sharon Garcia of California in the finals at 3:11. Nickols was the runner-up at 159 pounds last year.

Winning the title at 112 pounds was Rachel Hale of Vermont, who scored a tight 4-2 decision over Gabrielle Weyhrich of Nebraska. Hale, who was a Cadet Folkstyle runner-up last year, was the first girl to win two state high school titles competing against boys. She repeated as Vermont state champion this year for Mount Anthony High School.
