OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – With a dominant performance on the way to the title at 48 kg/105.5 lbs., Victoria Anthony (Colorado Springs, Colo./New York AC) was named Outstanding Wrestler at the Women’s University Nationals at the Freede Center on the campus of Oklahoma City University on Saturday.

Anthony scored a second period pin over Emily Martin (Frisco, Texas/King College), 4-0, 0:24 in the championship finals. In addition to the pin, Anthony scored four technical falls during the tournament.

Anthony, a two-time Junior World champion, placed second at the 2012 U.S. Open Championships at her weight class. She is taking a year off from college at Simon Fraser to pursue a spot on the Olympic Team.

The Women’s University Nationals is a qualifying event for the 2012 U.S. Olympic Team Trials, set for Iowa City, Iowa, April 21-22. Champions at the four Olympic weight classes earned a spot in the field in Iowa City.

However, three of the four Olympic weight classes were won by athletes who were already qualified to compete in Iowa City (48 kg, 55 kg, 72 kg). Only one new athlete earned a spot in the U.S. Olympic Team Trials with a victory on Saturday.

At 63 kg/138.5 lbs., Trinity Plessinger (Colorado Springs, Colo./Sunkist Kids) earned a spot in the Olympic Trials with her gold-medal victory. She defeated 2012 U.S. Open runner-up Melissa Apodaca (Chugiak, Alaska/NYAC), 3-1, 6-0 in the finals.

Plessinger won the University National Championships for the third straight year, all at different weight classes. Plessinger was the champion in 2011 at 59 kg/130 lbs. and she won the event in 2000 at 55 kg/121 lbs.

Along with Plessinger, repeating as University National champions was Michaela Hutchison (Soldotna, Alaska/OCU/Gator WC) at 55 kg/121 lbs. Hutchison defeated Sarah Hildebrandt (Granger, Ind./King College), in the finals, 1-0, 1-0. Hutchison, a three-time WCWA women’s college national champion, had already qualified for the Olympic Trials.

Also winning an Olympic weight division, but already qualified for Iowa City, was Julia Salata (Canton, Mich./King College) who beat Brittany Roberts (Oklahoma City, Okla./OCU/Gator Wrestling Club), 4-1, 2-0 at 72 kg/158.5 lbs.

2011 World bronze medalist Adeline Gray (Colorado Springs, Colo./New York AC) won the title at 67 kg/147.5 lbs., defeating past Junior World bronze medalist Veronica Carlson (Colorado Springs, Colo./NYAC), 1-0, 1-0 in the finals.

Other individual champions were:
