The nation’s top girls folkstyle and university women wrestlers will be on hand together for the USA Wrestling Girls Folkstyle and Women’s University Nationals, March 23-25, in Oklahoma City Okla. The event will be at the Freede Center on the campus of Oklahoma City University.

This is the first time the Girls Folkstyle and the Women’s University Nationals will be held alongside each other. 

The event kicks off Friday, with the Junior and Cadet division preliminaries in the Girls Folkstyle event. The University women’s freestyle event will begin action on Saturday, as the folkstyle divisions continue their preliminary rounds. The finals for the Women’s freestyle division, as well as the Girls Folkstyle Junior and Cadet divisions are scheduled for Saturday night.

Competition on Sunday will feature the Schoolgirls, Kids II and Kids II divisions for the Girls Folkstyle Nationals, as well as the annual Junior Girls Folkstyle Duals.

The Women’s University National Championships will have an impact on the U.S. Olympic Team selection process. The University Nationals champion in the four Olympic weight classes (48 kg, 55 kg, 63 kg, 72 kg) will earn a spot in the field at the 2012 U.S. Olympic Team Trials in Iowa City, Iowa, April 21-22.

Among the defending University Nationals champions who were WCWA college national champions in 2012 are Michaela Hutchison of Oklahoma City at 55 kg/121 lbs. and Brittany Delgado of Oklahoma City at 77 kg/167 lbs.

Wrestlers from 20 states have already registered for the Girls Folkstyle Nationals and wrestlers are urged to sign up early to secure a spot in the event. USA Wrestling does not charge for adjusting weight classes, even at weigh-ins.

The deadline to register for the girls folkstyle and women’s university nationals is Wednesday March 21, 6:00 p.m. C.S.T. Wrestles can also register on-site. There is a $60 on-site registration cost, cash only.
