The Asics USA Wrestling Folkstyle National Championships at the UNI-Dome in Cedar Falls, Iowa is quickly approaching. The tournament will be held March 30 – April 1, alongside the Final U.S. Olympic Trials Qualifier, which will determine two more Olympic Trials qualifiers in each Olympic weight classes. There are already 36 states being represented in this year’s tournament, with spots filling up quickly. Registration at the Cadet and Junior levels will be closed at 1,300 wrestlers and the Kids and Veterans level registration will close at 1,500 wrestlers. There will be no charge to athletes that change weight classes after they register, even at weigh-ins. Wrestlers are encouraged to sign up early to guarantee a spot in the tournament. Registration can be found at Track Wrestling The special guest for this year’s event is 2011 World Champion Jordan Burroughs. A two-time NCAA Champion and Hodge Trophy winner from the University of Nebraska, Burroughs has a winning streak of eight straight freestyle competitions and 27 straight matches, dating back to April of 2011. Burroughs has won the U.S. Open, Beat the Streets USA/Russia Dual, World Team Trials, Ukrainian Memorial International, World Championships, Pan America Games, Dave Schultz Memorial and the Cerro Pelado International. This tournament offers a high quality national championship to many age groups. The divisions included in the event are Bantam, Intermediate, Novice, Schoolboy, Cadet, Junior and Veterans. Awards will be given out to the top eight place winners in each age and weight class. The top two teams in the Kids divisions will also receive awards. This is the first event in the highly competitive USA Wrestling Triple Crown Series for the Kids, Cadet and Junior levels. Also in the U.S. Future Olympian Rankings points are worth double because it is a national event. Finally, the top two place winners in each Junior weight class qualify for funded access to the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
