Byron Tate (Clinton, Iowa/Wartburg College) has been named TheMat.com Wrestler of the Week for March 6-12.
Each week, TheMat.com will select an Athlete of the Week, based upon performance within wrestling for that week. The selection committee will consider any level of wrestling, from youth programs through the Senior level.
Tate won his third straight NCAA Division III title and led the top-ranked Wartburg Knights to the national team title on Saturday in La Crosse, Wis.
Tate downed St. John’s Dustin Baxter 7-2 in the 197-pound finals on Saturday.
Tate, a senior, became just the 12th wrestler in Division III history to win three titles.
