OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University wrestlers Brieana and Brittany Delgado will be awarded medals of commendation in the Oklahoma Sheriff’s and Peace Officers’ Association awards ceremony and banquet at 6 p.m. Friday at the Biltmore Hotel.

The Delgados will be recognized for their part in apprehending a possible hit-and-run suspect Aug. 20 during the OSPOA 98th annual training conference.

The sisters were involved in a car accident near the corner of NW 26th and Pennsylvania Avenue in August. 

As the two helped their grandmother, Elizabeth Bell, out of their car, the driver of the other vehicle attempted to flee the scene. 

Brieana ran the man down, tackled him and secured his hands behind his back in a move called the double chicken wing. Brittany followed, and the two stood the man up until police arrived to arrest him.

“They are great examples of OCU student-athletes who will become servant leaders of our community in the future,” OCU coach Archie Randall said.

Brieana and Brittany Delgado of Fountain Inn, S.C., are members of OCU’s women’s wrestling team which took its fourth consecutive Women’s College Wrestling Association championship and fifth NWCA National Duals title in a row this season. They were two of OCU’s 15 all-Americans in the WCWA Championships on Jan. 28 in Bristol, Tenn.

Brieana took fourth place nationally at 130 pounds. She posted a 20-9 record with five pins as a freshman this season.

Brittany became a three-time national champion and four-time all-American in 2011-12. She pinned three national-tournament opponents to finish 28-0 with 16 pins and the 191-pound title as a senior. Delgado ended her OCU career 112-8 with 62 falls.
