SZOMBATHELY, Hungary – Paul Tellgren (Anoka, Minn./Minnesota Storm) placed fifth at 55 kg/121 lbs., on the final day of the Hungarian Grand Prix of Greco-Roman on Sunday.

Tellgren opened up with victories over Knipli Csongor of Hungary and Nikko Triggas of the United States.

He was defeated in the semifinals by eventual champion Ayhan Karakus of Turkey, 0-3, 0-1. In his bronze-medal bout, he fell to 2008 Junior World bronze medalist Harun Bozoglu of Turkey, 0-2, 0-3.

Tellgren was second in the 2011 U.S. World Team Trials.

“Paul Tellgren wrestled well today in all of his matches,” said U.S. coach James Johnson. “Our athletes wrestled better today overall.”

Triggas (Moraga, Calif./New York AC) finished seventh. He opened with a win over Evgeny Miagkiy of Ukraine, then lost to Tellgren in three periods. When Tellgren failed to reach the finals, Triggas was eliminated from the repechage rounds.

Triggas was an NCAA All-American for Ohio State.

Two U.S. wrestlers went 1-1, beating American opponents for their win: Ben Sanchez, (Colorado Springs, Colo./New York AC) at 66 kg/145.5 lbs. and Pete Gounaridis, (Colorado Springs, Colo./Sunkist Kids) at 96 kg/211.5 lbs.

Team USA finished seventh out of 16 nations entered in the tournament, which is considered one of the most competitive Greco-Roman events each year.
