COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Jake Clark has made two U.S. World Teams in Greco-Roman wrestling, but he is still looking for his first berth in the Olympics.

Clark looks poised to make a serious run at making the 2012 Olympic Team after reaching the finals of the Dave Schultz Memorial International on Saturday afternoon at the U.S. Olympic Training Center.

Clark knocked off 2008 Olympic gold medalist Andrea Minguzzi of Italy in the quarterfinals before downing Aaron Sieracki in the semifinals.

Clark, who has been training in Hawaii, advances to face fellow Minnesota Storm wrestler Chas Betts in the finals at 84 kg/185 lbs. Betts made the 2009 U.S. World Team before Clark made the team a year later.

“In these tournaments, every match is tough,” Clark said. “I’m feeling really good about my training in Hawaii – it’s going great. I came over here to see where I’m at. I will try to hit my peak in April at the Olympic Trials.”

The finals are set for 5 p.m. Saturday.

World champion Dremiel Byers reached the finals at 120 kg/264.5 lbs. He is seeking a record sixth Dave Schultz title. Byers will face Germany’s Nico Schmidt in the finals. Byers beat Schmidt in the semifinals of the 2009 Worlds before Byers finished second.

World bronze medalist Justin Ruiz advanced to the finals at 96 kg/211.5 lbs. where he will face past World champion Mohammed Abdelfattah of Egypt. Ruiz is seeking his fourth title in this event.

“Mohammed, we’ve trained together and it will be a tough match in the finals. He’s very good in all positions.”

World Team member Jake Fisher reached the finals at 74 kg/163 lbs. He is seeking his third straight Schultz title. Fisher will face Andrew Bisek in the finals. Bisek replaced Fisher at the 2011 World Championships after Fisher was injured during training.
