National Women's Coach Terry Steiner has announced that the results from the Dave Schultz Memorial International on Feb. 2 will be used to determine the U.S. women's freestyle team for the 2012 Pan American Championships, which will be held in Colorado Springs, Colo., Feb. 24-26.

Any U.S. athlete who wins the Dave Schultz Memorial will earn a spot on the team. If no U.S. athlete wins at a specific weight, the top two placing U.S. wrestlers will have a wrestle-off for the team position.

Below is a letter sent by Coach Steiner to the women's wrestling community concerning this procedure.

Qualification Procedures

To All Involved:

As the Qualification Process is right now I have the ability to select the 2012 Pan-American Team. Instead of doing this I would like to leave it in the athletes hands on making the team.

I would like to take a minute to explain the Qualification Procedures for the 2012 Pan-American Wrestling Championships to be held in Colorado Springs, Colorado on February 24-26, 2012.

The following process is how you will make the team.

1 - If you win the 2012 Dave Schultz Memorial competition you will be on the team at that weight category

2 - If a foreign athlete wins the weight category at the Dave Schultz Memorial competition then we will take the 2 highest American Athletes and wrestle off for the spot.

3 - If the USA Champion declines the 2012 Pan-American Team then we will also have a wrestle-off between the next two highest American place winners in that weight category.

Weigh-ins for the Wrestle-Off will be a 3kg Allowance (Example for the 48kg Category it would be 48kg + 3kg = 51kg) on Friday at 6:00 pm – February 3, 2012.

The Wrestle-Off for the Pan-American Team Spot will be 1 Match.

The Wrestle-Off will be held before the Greco-Roman Wrestling Competition at the Schultz Competition on Saturday, February 4, 2012 at 9:00 am.
