Varner, Dlagnev receive draws for final day at Yarygin Memorial in Russia

KRASNOYARSK, Russia – The weigh-ins have been held and the draws have been released for the final day of the Ivan Yarygin Memorial Grand Prix, which ends on Sunday.
Two U.S. men’s freestyle wrestlers will compete: 2011 World bronze medalist Jake Varner (State College, Pa./Nittany Lion WC) at 96 kg/211.5 lbs. and 2009 World bronze medalist Tervel Dlagnev (Columbus, Ohio/Sunkist Kids) at 120 kg/264.5 lbs.
Varner will open against 2008 World University champion Evgeniy Kolomiets of Russia.
Last year, Varner went on a strong run to reach the semifinals at the Yarygin Memorial, where he was injured and unable to finish the tournament.
Dlagnev will face 2000 Junior World champion Ivan Ishenko of Ukraine in the first round.
Last year, Dlagnev won a bronze medal at the Yarygin Memorial.
The U.S. still seeks its first men’s freestyle medal this year at Yarygin. Two U.S. wrestlers fell short of the medals so far, Sam Hazewinkel at 55 kg and Brent Metcalf at 66 kg.
