Duane Morgan of Hollister, Calif, has been named the 1999 Man of the Year by USA Wrestling, the national governing body for amateur wrestling. This award recognizes an outstanding man for his contributions to the sport of wrestling. 
 He has been one of the nation top advocates for the development of wrestling on the youth and age-group levels, and has served with distinction as a national leader within USA Wrestling. 
 Morgan serves as the First Vice-President of USA Wrestling, and has served over 10 years on the Board of Directors. He has been the Chairperson of USA Wrestling's Junior Division since 1990, and also has served as Chairperson of the Junior Olympic Committee since 1992. He has served as team leader for three Junior World teams. 
 His work with the Junior Division Council has helped move the sport forward. Under his guidance, the Developmental Coach of the Year and the Junior Person of the Year awards were created, and a comprehensive Policy and Procedures manual was created. 
 As chairperson of the Junior Olympic Committee, a State Association and Grass Roots Strategic Plan has been developed.  
 Morgan served as Assistant to the Competition Manager at the 1996 Olympics and the 1995 World Championships, both hosted in Atlanta, Ga. 
 He has been a key leader within California/USA Wrestling, the largest and most active of USA Wrestling's state associations. Morgan serves as the Director of California's National Teams, and was named Man of the Year for California wrestling in 1999. He is the president of the Santa Clara Wrestling Association. 
 Morgan has been an active and successful wrestling referee, both in folkstyle and the international styles. He received California's Official of the Year awards in 1996 and 1999, and was also a sectional coach of the year award winner. He served three years on the NCAA Officials Evaluation Committee. 
 He was a successful coach at WR Overfelt High School in San Jose, compiling a 101-5 record. He tutored 10 state placewinners and five USA Wrestling All-Americans during his coaching career. He has been president of the Santa Clara Valley High School Association. 
 Morgan was an all-league wrestler in high school, and competed at San Jose Community College and San Jose State University. He currently works as the Dean of Students for Santa Teresa High School in San Jose. His wife Leanna helps run the local wrestling association in Santa Clara Valley.
