The U.S. Olympic Committee has announced its Twitter voting is now open for the November Male & Female Athletes and Team of the Month.

Vote for Dremiel Byers

Vote for Alli Ragan

Representing USA Wrestling in Greco-Roman is Dremiel Byers, who won gold medals at the Armed Forces Championships and the New York Athletic Club International in November and also won a silver medal at the Vantaa Cup in Finland.

Representing USA Wrestling in women’s freestyle is Alli Ragan, who was the Outstanding Wrestler in the women’s division at the New York Athletic Club International. With King College, she also was Outstanding American Wrestler at the Harry Geris Memorial International Duals in Canada.

Athlete: Dremiel Byers
Position: 120 kg/264.5 lbs. in Greco-Roman wrestling

Dremiel Byers won a gold medal at 2011 Armed Forces Championships in Greco-Roman at 120 kg/264.5 lbs., held at Fort Carson, Colo. on November 4. Byers defeated Joe Sheffield of the Marines in the deciding match, 3-0, 2-0.

Byers also won a gold medal at the New York Athletic Club International in New York City, N.Y. on November 12. Byers defeated Lucasz Banak of Poland in the championship match, 0-1, 1-0, 1-0. He finished with a 4-0 record in the event, including wins over Charles Fish, 2-0, 7-0, Charles Thoms of Canada by pin and Akil Patterson, 3-0, 5-0.

He added a silver medal at the Vantaa Cup in Vantaa, Finland, Nov. 19. Byers went 3-1 in the competition. He defeated Sami Ilvesoksa of Finland in the opening bout, 1-0, 2-0. In the quarterfinals, Byers stopped 2010 Junior World champion Igor Didyk of Ukraine, 4-0, 1-0. His semifinal victory was over 2006 World champion Heiki Nabi of Estonia, 2-0, 1-0. Byers dropped a tight finals match to Vasily Parshin of Russia, 0-1, 1-0, 0-1. He had the top finish of the U.S. athletes at that event.

Athlete: Alli Ragan
Position: 63 kg/138.75 lbs. in women’s freestyle wrestling

Alli Ragan won a gold medal at 63 kg/138.75 lbs. at the New York Athletic Club International in New York City, N.Y., Nov. 13. She was named Outstanding Wrestler in the competition.

Ragan defeated Trinity Plessinger in the championship finals, 1-3, 3-0, 4-0. She scored a huge win in the semifinals, defeating two-time World champion and nine-time World medalist Kristie Davis by a 0-2, 3-2, 1-0 margin. She finished with a 4-0 record, with other wins over Lauren Louive, 4-0, 5-0 and Erin Clodgo, 1-1, 0-1, 2-1.

Ragan also competed in a number of women’s college events during the month. She competes for King College and holds a No. 1 ranking in the WCWA women’s college rankings in her weight class.

On November 19, she led King College to a victory at the Harry Geris Memorial International Duals in London, Canada, which featured eight teams from Canada and the USA. Ragan was named Most Outstanding American Wrestler in the event. She won all five of her matches, including three by pin. 

She also won a gold medal at the Missouri Valley Open on November 5, winning all four of her matches.
