Logan Stieber named Big Ten Wrestler of the Week

Recorded two pins, a technical fall and a major decision en route to the 133-pound title at the Eastern Michigan Open
Pinned Arizona State’s Shane McGough in 1:16 in the first round, following with a 17-2 technical fall against Central Michigan’s Tyler Kesselring in Round 2, a pin against Purdue’s Matt Fields in 1:27 in the semifinals and a 15-2 major decision over eighth-ranked Cashe Quiroga of Purdue in the finals.
Currently ranked fourth in the country at 133 pounds
Earns the first weekly award of his career

Weight class titles at Hokie Open highlight opening weekend of 2011-12 season
GREENSBORO, N.C. – North Carolina 141-pound freshman Evan Henderson and Virginia Tech 133-pound sophomore Devin Carter have been named the first ACC Wrestlers of the Week for the 2011-12 season after a strong opening weekend that saw each claim his weight class title at the Hokie Open in Salem, Va.
Henderson opened his career in impressive fashion as he claimed the top spot at 141 pounds at the Hokie Open. The New Florence, Pa., native rolled his way to the semifinals with a pair of pins and a major decision before knocking off No. 15 Darrius Little of rival NC State, 9-5. Henderson capped off a dominant opening weekend with a 7-4 decision over The Citadel’s Khishignyam Undrakhbayer for the tournament title.
Virginia Tech’s Carter picked up where he left off last season, when he claimed ACC Co-Freshman of the Year honors. Carter went 5-0 for the weekend, picking up four pins and a technical fall. He opened the season with a pin of Tanner Bidlespach in a dual meet against Campbell and then won the 133-pound class at the Hokie Open by going 4-0, picking up three pins and a technical fall. Carter, of Christiansburg, Va., pinned Duke freshman Brandon Gambucci in 2:11 in the 133-pound final.
Corey Brown named PAC Wrestler of the Week
Corey Brown (Greenville, Pa./Reynolds) earned the season's first Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Wrestler of the Week honor Monday afternoon.
Brown went a perfect 4-0 to earn the 133-pound individual title while helping lead the Tomcats to a third-place team finish at the Ithaca College Invitational last weekend. The two-day event featured three top 25 programs, including the fourth-ranked Bombers, who finished just 26 points ahead of Thiel.
Brown, who entered the 2011-12 season ranked sixth in the nation in NCAA Division III at 133 pounds, registered a 7-4 decision over Ithaca's Alex Gomez in the 133-pound tournament championship match.
Nick Oliveto named Empire Collegiate Wrestling Conference Wrestler of the Week
The Empire Collegiate Wrestling Conference has selected Oneonta State freshman, Nick Oliveto (Suffern/Suffern) as its initial Rookie of the Week for the 2011-12 season. Oliveto earned the honor after winning the 125 lbs. weight class this past Saturday at the Monarch Invitational hosted by King's College. Oliveto's performance helped the Red Dragons place fourth overall out of 13 competing teams at the tournament.
Oliveto began the tournament as the No. 3 seeded wrestler in his bracket and in his first match he recorded a technical fall over Andrew Petroulias of Gettysburg. He recorded a second straight tech fall versus Rory Bruce of RIT to advance into the semifinals. In the semifinals he recorded an 11-5 decision over the No. 2 seeded, Michael Flack of Wilkes. In the championship match he pinned the No. 1 seed in his bracket, Abe Evans of Gettysburg to complete his championship run.
Oliveto had quite an accomplished high school career that included being an All-State wrestler, a section champion and being a five-time county champion as well as an Eastern States champion.
Phil Ernst named Pilgrim Wrestling League Wrestler of the Week
197-pounder Phil Ernst (Succasunna, N.J.) of Roger Williams University earned the Pilgrim Wrestling League's Wrestler of the Week on November 7, 2011.
Ernst went 5-1 at the Monarch Invitational at Kings College and earned a third place finish, leading the Hawks to a fifth place finish in the 13-team meet.
The RWU Wrestling team, ranked sixth in New England in the New England Wrestling Association's Coaches Poll, hosts the 13-team Roger Williams Invitational on Saturday, November 12.
Jacob Kahnke named NSIC Wrestler of the Week
St. Cloud State University junior Jacob Kahnke (Shakopee/Prior Lake H.S.) has been named the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Wrestler of the Week for Oct. 31-Nov. 6. Kahnke wrestlers for the Huskies at 285-pounds this season, and is currently ranked #2 in the nation in the Division II Wrestling Coaches' Association preseason poll.
To achieve the NSIC weekly award, Kahnke won first place honors in the 285-pound bracket at the 2011 Warren Williamson/Daktronics Open on Sunday, Nov. 6 in Brookings, S.D.
Kahnke rolled to the title with a perfect 4-0 record that included a first round bye, a second technical fall over Augustana’s Taylor Harris and a third round pin at 1:36 against Illinois’ Ben Tammany. In the semi-finals, Kahnke posted an 8-1 win over Leviticus Roberson of Midland Lutheran.
To cap the event, Kahnke scored an 8-3 win over defending NCAA Division II champion Matt Meuleners of Northern State in the title bout. Kahnke is now 4-0 on the season for the Huskies.
A transfer student from Division I Old Dominion University in 2009, Kahnke is a returning two-time All-America for the Huskies. At the 2011 NCAA Division II championships, Kahnke placed second at 285-pounds.
As a team, SCSU placed second at the 2011 NCAA Division II championships and the Huskies finished with a school record 19 dual match wins last season (19-2). SCSU won the 2011 NCAA Division II regional tournament and the Huskies' second place finish at nationals is the best performance in team history.
The Huskies will continue their 2011-12 campaign with a trip to the Harold Nichols Open in Ames, Iowa on Nov. 13.
