FORT CARSON, COLO. – The Army had to win the last three matches of their dual meet against the Marines to win by a 15-12 decision and claim the team title at the Armed Forces Freestyle Championships on Saturday.

Going into the final dual, both the Army and Marines were unbeaten with 2-0 marks.

The Marines won three of the first four matches with victories by Ian Moser (55 kg), Joel Ahern (66 kg) and Bryce Saddoris (74 kg).

Moser beat Nate Engle, 3-0, 0-1, 4-0. Ahern stopped Justin Pearch, 4-1, 1-1. Saddoris, a college star at the U.S. Naval Academy, beat Angel Cejudo, 1-1, 1-0.

The only victory in the opening four matches for the Army came at 60 kg, when Mark Bradley stopped Donovan DePatto, 3-0, 3-0 at 60 kg.

The Army swept the last three bouts to take the dual. 

At 84 kg, Jon Anderson beat D.J. Simmons, 1-0, 2-1. At 96 kg, Justin Millard stopped Joe Abujaredeh, 8-1, 3-0. Closing out the win was 2002 World Greco-Roman champion Dremiel Byers, who edged Charlie Fish, 2-1, 1-0.

All of the winners from the Army vs. Marines dual ended up taking individual gold medals.

Anderson, Millard and Byers were individual double champions for the weekend, winning gold medals in both the freestyle and Greco-Roman divisions.

The Army, which also won the Greco-Roman team title on Friday, was also the overall champion, which combined the Greco-Roman and freestyle competitions.
