Golston wins gold, Schmidt adds silver at Concordia Invitational in Canada

MONTREAL, Canada – Two members of the women’s freestyle team at the U.S. Olympic Education Center at Northern Michigan University won medals at the Concordia Invitational in Canada on October 30.

Claiming a gold-medal at 48 kg/105.5 lbs. was Erin Golston (Lake in the Hills, Ill./USOEC).

Golston, a freshman at Northern Michigan, won both her matches, with victories over Vu of McMaster and McKay of Nova Scotia by pin. 

Golston was a 2011 Junior World bronze medalist for the United States.

Cassandra Schmidt (Missoula, Montana/USOEC) won a silver medal at 59 kg/130 lbs. with a 2-1 record. She opened with a pair of victories by pin, then was beaten in the finals by Linda Morais of host Concordia. Schmidt is a junior at Northern Michigan.

Another USOEC athlete, Marlie Gillis (Gladstone, Mich./USOEC) placed fifth at 63 kg/138.75 lbs.
