Nine additional athletes have qualified to compete at the 2012 U.S. Olympic Team Trials for Wrestling at Carver-Hawkeye Arena in Iowa City, Iowa, April 21-22. 

They earned their spots in the field based upon results at the Sunkist Kids International Open, held in Mesa, Ariz., Oct. 29-30.

Seven of the new qualifiers came in men’s freestyle wrestling. The top U.S. placewinner in the top four of each weight class who had not already qualified earned their trip to Iowa City. The new men’s freestyle qualifiers are:
• Ben Kjar (Orem, Utah/Utah Valley) at 55 kg/121 lbs.
• Derek Moore (Colorado Springs, Colo./U.S. Army) at 60 kg/132 lbs.
• Jared Frayer (Norman, Okla./Gator WC) at 66 kg/145.5 lbs.
• Lloyd Rogers (Iowa City, Iowa/Hawkeye WC) at 74 kg/163 lbs.
• Raymond Jordan (Lincoln, Neb./Sunkist Kids) at 84 kg/185 lbs.
• Wynn Michalak (Colorado Springs, Colo./Gator WC) at 96 kg/211.5 lbs.
• Charles Fish (Camp LeJeune, N.C./U.S. Marines) at 120 kg/264.5 lbs.

Frayer and Jordan won Sunkist Kids International titles. Moore, Rogers, Michalak and Fish placed second at the Sunkist Kids International. Kjar placed fourth there.

Moore was a NCAA Div. I champion for Cal-Davis. Past NCAA All-Americans who qualified were Kjar (Utah Valley), Frayer (Oklahoma), Jordan (Missouri) and Michalak (Central Michigan). Rogers wrestled for UT-Chattanooga.

Two of the new qualifiers came in Greco-Roman. Champions from the Sunkist Kids International in Greco-Roman qualified for Iowa City. There were five U.S. Greco-Roman champions there, but three had already qualified. The new Greco-Roman qualifiers are:
•	Ellis Coleman (Colorado Springs, Colo./New York AC) at 60 kg/132 lbs.
•	C.P. Schlatter (Minneapolis, Minn./Minnesota Storm) at 66 kg/145.5 lbs.

Schlatter was an NCAA All-American for Minnesota. Coleman competed for the USOEC program at Northern Michigan.

Only champions at the Sunkist Kids International in women’s freestyle qualified for the U.S. Olympic Trials. There was one U.S. champion there, but she had already qualified.

Since the qualification process for the U.S. Olympic Team Trials began, 74 athletes have already earned their spot in this elite field.

The qualification process will continue in the months leading up to the event.

Each of the three Olympic styles of wrestling will have a different qualification process, as proposed by their individual Sports Committees, presented by USA Wrestling and approved by the USOC.

The next scheduled event to provide the opportunity to qualify for the U.S. Olympic Team Trials for wrestling is the Armed Forces Greco-Roman Championships, set for Colorado Springs, Colo., November 4, where individual champions will qualify. In addition, any U.S. women’s wrestler who claims a gold medal at the Hargobind International in Burnaby, Canada, Nov. 4-5 will also qualify.

This year, there will not be a U.S. Open for men’s freestyle. Instead, there will be a Men’s Freestyle Olympic Trials Qualifier held in Las Vegas, Nev., Dec. 3 in Las Vegas, Nev., held alongside the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Collegiate Wrestling Invitational. Three athletes in each weight class will qualify for Iowa City.

The U.S. Open for Greco-Roman and Women’s Freestyle will be held in Arlington, Texas, Dec. 16-17, 2011. Seven athletes in each weight class will qualify for Iowa City from this event.

In addition to listing the athletes by weight class, USA Wrestling is also producing a list of qualifiers based upon their college affiliation, either as a current or past student-athlete, current coach or involvement with a Regional Training Center.

USA Wrestling will continue to update and publish the list of athletes who have qualified for the U.S. Olympic Team Trials for Wrestling.
