A new major motion picture, THE HAMMER, plays in theaters nationally beginning tonight.

The movie tells the inspirational story of deaf wrestler and UFC fighter Matt Hamill and how he persevered to become the first deaf NCAA national champion in wrestling.

THE HAMMER focuses on his early life and the path that Hamill took to become a champion. The film features many scenes that focus on wrestling and the progression of Matt's career from elementary school through college.

Hamill won three NCAA Div. III national titles for RIT (1997-99), graduating in 1999 with a degree in electomechanical technology. He won his titles at 167, 190 and 197 pounds. Hamill later became a champion in Mixed Martial Arts.

The movie stars deaf actors Russell Harvard (There Will be Blood) and Shoshannah Stern (Weeds). It is rated PG-13 and is great for older kids and adults.
