OKLAHOMA COLLEGE STARS DEFEAT KOREA, 23-12 AT NORMAN, OKLA., TUESDAY, MAY 23 

NORMAN, Okla. - An all-star team of college wrestlers from Oklahoma and Oklahoma State defeated the Korean University National team, 23-12, in a freestyle dual meet, Tuesday, May 23, at the OU Field House in Norman, Okla. at 6:00 p.m.

The Oklahomans won the dual's first three matches and would go on to win seven of the 10 bouts. Matt Ridings of Oklahoma used a five-point throw with five second left in the match for a 9-8 come-from-behind win in the opening match of the dual. Bo Maynes of Oklahoma, a 3-0 winner over Na Dae-Young, and former Sooner Alfredo Varela, a 5-1 victor against Yeo Wun-Chung, claimed the next two matches for the All-Stars.

The Korean team picked-up its first win at 134.2 pounds, where Hwang Sun-Ho defeated Witt Durden of Oklahoma, 11-6. Oklahoma's Michael Lightner won 3-1 in overtime at 140.8 pounds and Jared Frayer of Oklahoma won by superiority (4:15, 10-0) at 156.2.

The Koreans won two of the next three matches. Jung Dae-Lee decisioned Shane Roller of Oklahoma State, 4-2, and No Hae-Hyoun downed Rowdy Lundegreen of Oklahoma. Tyrone Lewis of Oklahoma State won by fall, pinning Cheon Jong-Min in :32. Oklahoma's heavyweight Gary Barber won the final match by injury default.

This is the same Korean squad that was defeated by the the Big 12 All-Stars, 30-9, on May 21. After this dual meet, the Korean team will travel to Tempe, Ariz., to face a team from the Sunkist Kids Wrestling Club on Saturday, May 27 at Wells Fargo Arena at Arizona State, starting at 2 p.m.
