Henry Cejudo is a freestyle wrestler who won gold at the 2007 Pan American Games, then became the youngest American Olympic champion wrestler at the age of 21 in 2008. He is currently in Guadalajara
campaigning for the PASO Athletes’ Commission election, while also training as he looks to earn a spot on the 2012 U.S. Olympic Team.
Q. What is your role at the Pan American Games?
A. I’m the U.S. candidate for the PASO Athletes’ Commission and I came to inform fellow athletes about the election and encourage them to vote for me. With my bilingual skills and experience as a Pan American champion and Olympic champion, I can effectively speak on behalf of athletes and ensure that the athletes’ points of view are taken into account in PASO’s decisions.
Q. What is the PASO Athletes Commission?
A. The PASO Athletes’ Commission is composed of seven athletes, including five from Olympic sports and two from Pan American sports. The Commission is set up to represent the interests of athletes
in the Pan American region and to be involved in the planning process of future Pan American Games in order to offer athletes a memorable Pan American Games experience and a successful competitive
environment.
Q. How can the athletes in the village vote?
A. In Guadalajara, the voting polls are located in the entrance of the dining halls at the Pan American Village, and are open every day from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. A similar station is set up in the NOC office at the Pan American Village in Puerto Vallarta, as well as at the Canoe/Kayak
venue in Ciudad Guzman. The process only takes a few minutes!
