* The two U.S. Greco-Roman wrestlers who are attempting to qualify the U.S. for the 2000 Olympic Games, Dennis Hall (Plover, Wis./Sunkist Kids) at 127.75 pounds and Matt Lindland (Lincoln, Neb./Sunkist Kids) at 167.5 pounds, remain alive in the quest for gold.
Hall will face Cuba's Roberto Monzon in the gold-medal match on Wednesday evening. Hall pinned Monzon in the gold-medal finals at the 1999 Pan American Games in Canada.
Lindland has drawn Ramirez of Venezuela in his semifinal match. Should Lindland win, his probable finals opponent would be 1993 World Champion Nestor Alamanza of Cuba.
* Besides Hall, three other U.S. wrestlers have secured a spot in the finals: Glenn Nieradka (Colorado Springs, Colo./U.S. Army) at 138.75 pounds, Dan Henderson (Gresham, Ore./Dave Schultz WC) at 187.25 pounds, Rulon Gardner (Colorado Springs, Colo./Sunkist Kids) at 286 pounds. All three will face Cuban athletes who have won World medals: Juan Maren at 138.75 pounds, 1999 World champion Luis Mendez at 187.25 pounds and 1992 Olympic champion Hector Millian at 286 pounds.
* Garrett Lowney (Appleton, Wis./Minnesota Storm) claimed the bronze medal at 213.75 pounds. He lost a referee's decision to veteran Reynaldo Pena of Cuba in the semifinals.
* Competing for bronze medals will be Brandon Paulson (Golden Valley, Minn./Minnesota Storm) at 119 pounds and Heath Sims (Huntington Beach, Calif./Dave Schultz WC) at 152 pounds. Paulson lost to 1999 World Champion Lazaro Rivas in the semifinals and Sims lost to 1996 Olympic champion Filiberto Azcuy of Cuba in the semifinals.
