The U.S. Olympic Team Trials for Wrestling will feature contests in each of the 18 Olympic wrestling weight classes. This includes seven weight classes in men's freestyle, seven weight classes in Greco-Roman and four weight classes in women's freestyle.
Each individual journalist who wishes to cover the 2012 U.S. Olympic Team Trials for Wrestling will have to submit an accreditation form. A media outlet may send in all of their requests at once, but one form must be completed for each applicant.
Accreditation acceptance will be done on a "rolling basis," being handled shortly after each application is received. The first set of acceptance letters are expected in November 2011.
All media outlets are encouraged to send in their applications as soon as possible in order for the event organizers and the media outlets to make the appropriate plans.
The deadline for all media accreditation is April 1, 2012.
Over 200 athletes from across the United States are expected to qualify for this event, all who are pursuing their personal Olympic dreams.
The U.S. Olympic Team Trials for Wrestling will be a tremendous opportunity for media to cover the Olympic quest. For local media, there should be many athletes from numerous markets to cover. For national and international media, the competition will feature numerous Olympic medal hopefuls, as well as a large number of compelling personal stories.
This event has proven to be a favorite both for sports fans as well as for journalists. A large attendance is expected at Carver-Hawkeye Arena, which has set previous attendance records for college wrestling events held there.
The U.S. Olympic Team Trials for Wrestling will be held two months earlier in the year than it has during previous Olympic cycles. This change was made to allow additional preparation time for the U.S. Olympic wrestling athletes prior to the London Games. Please note this change when making your plans for Olympic Trials coverage.
