JORDAN FRISHKORN, MATT LINDLAND HONORED AS THEMAT.COM WRESTLERS OF THE WEEK OF MAY 22-28 

TheMat.com has named its National Wrestlers of the Week for May 22-28, 2000.

The winner of TheMat.com Youth Wrestler of the Week is Jordan Frishkorn of Great Bridge, Va.

The winner of TheMat.com International Wrestler of the Week is Matt Lindland (Lincoln, Neb./Sunkist Kids)

TheMat.com will announce Wrestlers of the Week in a number of age group levels, which will be posted on the web page and promoted to the national media.

Youth Wrestler of the Week: Jordan Frishkorn, Great Bridge, Va.

Frishkorn won a double title, claiming the freestyle and Greco-Roman gold medals, at the 80-pound weight class in the Schoolboy Division (13-14 years old) at the Southeast Kids/Cadet Regional Championships in Jacksonville, Fla, May 26-28. Frishkorn won seven matches during the weekend, including three technical falls and two pins. He defeated Kyle James of Tennessee in the freestyle finals, 5-2, and also defeated James in the Greco-Roman finals, 3-1. Frishkorn has won eight career USA Wrestling Southeast Kids Regional titles. He also won 1999 USA Wrestling Kids National titles in folkstyle and freestyle, and placed second in Greco-Roman. He is a member of the Great Bridge Wrestling Club.

International Wrestler of the Week: Matt Lindland (Lincoln, Neb./Sunkist Kids)

Lindland won a gold medal at 167.5 pounds at the Pan American Greco-Roman Wrestling Championships, held in Cali, Colombia, May 23-24. His victory qualified the United States for the 2000 Olympic Games at his weight class. Lindland clinched the eighth and final spot for the U.S. at the Olympic Games in Greco-Roman, giving the USA a full team in Sydney. Lindland won a tight 1-0 overtime referee's decision over 1993 World Champion Nestor Almanza of Cuba in the gold-medal match. He needed to win five matches during the tournament to claim the title. Among his victories were a pair of technical falls and a pin.
