Warrensburg, Mo. (Oct. 5, 2011) – Minot State University head wresting coach Robin Ersland will be honored by his former school the University of Central Missouri by being inducted into the Mules Wrestling Class of 2011 Legends Friday.

The university will honor Ersland along with six other wrestlers, coaches, and outstanding contributors at a banquet at the White Rose Pavilion. Ersland was the Mules head coach for 15 years before coming to Minot State to re-establish wresting.

“I am extremely honored to be included in the UCM Hall of Wrestling Legends,” Ersland said. “It is a tribute to the outstanding student-athletes who wrestled at UCM during my time there, and the many hard working assistant coaches who developed them, rather than to anything I did. No coach wins without good assistant coaches and hard working student-athletes and my career as a coach is no different.”

Ersland compiled a 134-126-2 record at Central Missouri, coaching 32 All-Americans and led the Mules to their highest national finish – an 11th place finish in 2001.

“It was an honor to have been a part of those fine young men lives and to have worked with so many outstanding assistants,” he said.

Along with Ersland, the Mules are honoring former coach Paul Barbarick, wrestler/coach Gordon “Buzz” Matson, wrestlers Mike Bailey, Merril Norris and Marc Stevener as well as Bev Stevener as an outstanding service and contributions. Central Missouri is also honoring the 1971, 1981, 1991 and 2001 wrestling classes during their Homecoming 2011 weekend.
