We are welcoming California native and Olympic silver medalist Jamill Kelly as our special guest at the 2011 Wild West Preseason Showdown on October 15, 2011.
Kelly will be signing autographs and presenting awards at the event, which will be held at Selland Arena in Fresno, Calif.
Kelly has recently been hired on as an assistant coach at Div. I wrestling power Cal Poly, returning to his home state. He has served coaching stints at Harvard, Oklahoma State and with the Dallas Dynamite club, as well as a position on the USA Wrestling national staff.
He is originally from Atwater, California and began his wrestling career, placing fourth in the state while attending Atwater High School. He then went on to wrestle at Lassen Community College in California, prior to finishing his collegiate career at Oklahoma State University. Kelly was a two-time NCAA qualifier for Oklahoma State.
Kelly made his biggest impact as a World-class freestyle wrestler. He was the Pan American Championships gold medalist in 2001 and earned a silver medal in the 2003 Pan American Games.
In 2004, Kelly won the U.S. Nationals title and followed with a victory at the U.S. Olympic Trials in Indianapolis, Ind.
He then competed as a member of the U.S Olympic team at the 2004 Summer Olympics held in Athens, Greece. Kelly had a great tournament, defeating an opponent from Russia in the semifinals, and returned from the 2004 Olympics as a Silver Medalist at 66 kg/145.5 lbs.
Some of Kelly’s other achievements include finishing third at the 2001 U.S. Nationals and second at the 2002 U.S. Nationals.
