Sacred Heart joins the EIWA

The Sacred Heart wrestling program enters a new era in 2011-12 as they join the prestigious Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association.  The Pioneers have also announced the first schedule they will take on with new head coach David Cameron. 

"We are very excited to be the newest member of the Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association," commented Senior Associate Athletic Director Mike Guastelle, who was instrumental in the move.  "It is a prestigious conference and we are honored to be associated with the league and all of the quality programs in it."  

The EIWA features three teams ranked in the national top-10, including the squad that topped the final NCAA poll of 2010-11, Cornell.  Other member s of the EIWA include: #8 Lehigh, #9 Rutgers, #18 American, Penn, Navy, Columbia, Bucknell, Army, Harvard, Princeton, Franklin & Marshall, and Brown.  Sacred Heart will compete in its first EIWA Championships this spring, March 3-4.

The 2011-12 wrestling schedule features a trip to Citadel to take on the Bulldogs as well as the UNC Tar Heels on February 19.  The Pioneers open the season November 26 at the Northeast Duals where they will clash with Army and Eastern Michigan.  Sacred Heart is also slated for trips to the Bloomsburg and Bison Duals as well as the Mat Town Invitational.  The Pioneers will also lock up with regional opponents Rider, Boston University, American International, East Stroudsburg, and Millers
